Jammu and Kashmir- Pension incresed from 7K crore to 14K crore

Monday Jammu and Kashmir government informed that the salary and pension bills of legislators in the state have increased from Rs 7,896 crore from last year to Rs 14,740 crore at present.

"While the salary bill 2001-2002 was of the order of about Rs 3,591 crore it jumped to Rs 7896 crore in 2008-2009 and is touching Rs 14,740 crore at present," Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told the Legislative Assembly while speaking on a bill to hike the salaries of former and present Legislators.

Hikes for legislators

Monday The Jammu and Kashmir assembly by a voice vote bills stating the of of legislators by 20 percent and their pension by 25 percent.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah later wrote on twitter: "Now that we've voted a pay hike for ourselves in the assembly, I'm waiting for the brickbats."

The state government employees have been requesting the release of their arrears following the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission's recommendations since 2008.

They have been critical of the government move to hike the salary of legislators and ministers while denying the arrears to the employees.
